Workout Wednesday

The beach is on my mind this week. I’m headed to the Dominican Republic in a few days which means bikinis and shorts for 6 days.

While I have no intention of letting the leanness of my body dictate how much I enjoy myself, putting in a little extra time on the glutes and abs won’t make me sad either.

So that is the inspiration of this very quick and very adaptable Workout Wednesday.

Not Your Average Holiday Party Nutrition Advice

It seems that this is the weekend for holiday parties. I’ve heard more than a few people mention their plans for this weekend.

But not just the holidays, this time of year in general we tend to take a few more days off from our normal schedule and visit places (like Apple Hill) and people that may not be around the rest of the year.

By now you know I heavily lean toward enjoying life and choosing your indulgences because this is a lifestyle right?

The Secret Of Spot Reducing

You’ve heard of “pear shape” “apple shape” etc. These refer to where a persons bodies stores the most fat.

About 99% of the time when I meet someone for a 1-on-1 Success Session they tell me that they need to work on one spot in particular; usually their belly, thighs, or arms. They want to hit there trouble spot hard to make it shrink.

No wonder, magazines and social media will have you believe that in order to get a flat belly you need to work those abs. Or to get a nice butt you simply have to squat and lunge more.

No don’t get me wrong squats and lunges WILL give you a nice butt. And planks, burpees and leg raises contribute to a nice midsection but not in the way you think. [Read more…]

3 Flat Belly Saboteurs

Even though we are called Booty Boot Camp the #1 reason I hear for why women join us is: “I need to lose this BELLY!”

And while things like pregnancy or major illness are often the reason why a belly gets stretched out of shape in the first place, the reason a belly STAYS that way comes down to a few mistakes/bad habits:

-The wrong kind of ab training
-Doing the wrong kind of cardio and too much of it at that! All while ignoring strength training304457_494271560585761_2012163336_n-249x300
The Big one: Poor NUTRITION

Here’s why:

Ab/core training IS important – Most of the time people just say “abs” but leave off the last bit –muscles. Your abs are muscles (abdominal muscles) and they need to be strengthened, conditioned and depending on your goals, increase in size. Having strong tight ab muscles WILL help keep your tummy pulled in and look flatter. So yes, you need to work your core. But honestly traditional ab work, like hundreds of crunches don’t do much more than waste your time at best and tweak your back and neck at worst. They are not very efficient and don’t address the layer of fat on TOP of the muscles.

Alcohol and Fat Loss

This time of year we can’t avoid the parties and  its evil twin “Alcohol”.

If you know me, you know that I am a big advocate of a balanced lifestyle. I preach moderation NOT restriction.

So let’s talk a bit about our friend “alcohol”

Alcohol And Fat Loss – Can You Have Both?

One question that often presents itself to many dieters who are trying to shed the excess weight that has accumulated over time is whether or not alcohol can be included in their diet plan.

Alcohol is something that most adults do like to indulge in from time to time – some more often than others. [Read more…]

It’s here! The season of tempting baked goods, limited-time-only coffee house drinks, cold weather that makes you wand stay bundled up, short days and the openly accepted excuse to drop off of all your hard work and progress (or to delay the start of making some until January) –The Holidays.

Let’s Break It Down To The Basics

When you first start off on your mission to drop some L-B’s the most impacting factor is the calorie deficit you create. You need to burn more than you take in.

Side note: In the beginning it really is that simple. As you progress, lose more weight, get leaner and more fit, sometimes more manipulation is needed but for the sake of this post, let’s just talk about you being a beginner or intermediate exerciser.Learn to eat right at Sacramento's Booty Boot Camp [Read more…]

Moment of truth time…….you’ve been doing it for a while now, probably longer than you realize. Again and again, you come up with a reason why you’re going to start TOMORROW.

Before you know it, you wake up one morning and you’re 5 lbs, 10 lbs, or 15 lbs heavier than you were a few months ago!

Enough is enough. Now is the time to stop making excuses, to stop putting your fitness on hold, and to start working out and eating to support your goals. Period. [Read more…]

Skinny Jeans Approved Desserts (Recipes)

The two biggest “challenges” my clients often face when they are trying to stick to a plan to get lean, as far as nutrition goes, are alcohol and sweets. Sometimes one or the other, sometimes both.

That’s why during the last Skinny Jeans Transformation Challenge, I challenged the teams to come up with healthy desserts under 200 calories per serving that were made up of a majority of whole foods (meaning minimal processing), contained at least one “super-food” and tasted good enough to satisfy the urge to grab a jumbo cookie, brownie or bowl of ice-cream (you do get those too right? It’s not just me?…..).

Well they came up with 3 and I’m finally sharing them with you today (Hint: The ice pops are PERFECT for these hot summer days). [Read more…]
