Free Yourself Friday

We are almost to the 1-week mark of our first OctoberFit challenge.

I wanted this challenge to be about more than just a “transformation” in the popular sense as cool as those are.

So while yes, there are killer workouts and even menus, the focus is on movement and taking care of yourself in all ways.

To keep it fun, each day has a theme and a challenge that goes with it.

I want to share todays challenge with you because it’s not your typical “transformation challenge” type challenge.

Try Sprint Intervals (Not What You Think)

Imagine that you are running a marathon and based on the way you’ve trained for this event at certain intervals you are going to pick up your pace for a specified period of time to get ahead faster, a sprint so to speak.

So you do your sprint and then you turn around and walk back to where you started…..wait huh?

Check Out These Results

I’ve been on a motivation kick the last couple of weeks cause I know how easy it is to slide into a blahzay attitude about our fitness goals over the summer only to panic once fall hits and we gotta wear those jeans again. Yikes.

Plus it’s no fun to lose the SAME 10 pounds over and over again. Or to work up to doing toe push-ups or a max weight on a squat only to let that slide and have to work on getting it back. Starting over sucks in most cases.

Ultimately we always want to be improving. Getting better. Sometimes that means actually losing fat or gaining strength, sometimes that means sticking to a plan better than you have any summer before. Better is better.

Today I want to share some motivational pic of getting better. On June 28th we wrapped up our first ever Fierce For Photos 8-week transformation challenge with a professional photo shoot and these ladies look so good and confident I know it’ll motivate you to get in your training session today and the rest of the week!

Check them out and get motivated!

A Few More Food Pusher Comebacks

Seems like food pushers are everywhere.

I got a lot of feedback from the women in my Sacramento boot camp  on the subject of dealing with the passive aggressive types (food push #1). And today of all days food is going to be pushed on you, hard.

And if it’s in your plan to eat it; go ahead and indulge guilt free.

But if your plan includes saying no to some things then you will need to be prepared for how to deal with a few more types of food pushers. Here is some more help: [Read more…]

Avoid Fat Spillover Tomorrow!

Tomorrow is a big eating day for a lot of you. Tons of carb loaded dishes and sweet treats. I know some of that stuff you only eat just this one time each year.

The last few emails I’ve been talking about the fact that you can’t outwork a bad diet, and that is still 100% true. So am I here to tell you to not eat all that delicious food tomorrow? Nope. Lets be real, it’s happening.

I think it’s unrealistic to expect anyone to eat “perfectly” 100% of the time. [Read more…]

This IS The Truth and There’s No Way Around It

If you’re not where you want to be physically, then you really need to hear this. This is the truth and there’s no way around it…..

I’ve tried it, tested it on me and hundreds of others. My friends have tried it, my colleagues all over the world have tried it. Every angle has been addressed, every method tested. And this one truth does not change…..

YOU CANNOT OUT-EXERCISE A BAD DIET

IF YOU WANT RESULTS, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A NUTRITION PLAN……AND STICK TO IT.

. <-that means period.

So many of you bang your head against the proverbial weight/fat loss wall over and over again trying to (subconsciously I hope) prove me wrong. Save yourself. I already know the outcome with 100% certainty. [Read more…]

Holiday Calories and Workouts

It’s that time of year where if you allow it, everything can get in the way of you getting your workouts in.

The average person gains 7-12 pounds during the holiday season.

Of course a HUGE part of that is in the food that is everywhere but just as key is the lack of consistent workouts.

Put at its absolute most basic, you gain weight when you take in more calories than you expend. And if you are eating all kinds of yummy treats (more calories) and not burning anything extra it’s easy to see where those pounds just creep on. Not don’t misunderstand me; you CAN NOT out work a bad diet. [Read more…]

Don’t End Up Skinny Fat

Skinny fat? ….what in the world is that??

The official definition (from wikepedia): Normal weight obesity is a condition of having normal body weight, but high body fat percentages and has the SAME health risks as traditionally classified obesity.

Translation: This is a person who has dieted so aggressively that her body has used most of her muscle for fuel leaving her with more fat than muscle and although she may be “skinny” and fit into her smaller jeans she is in fact obese.

Her clothes will hang and sag in all the wrong places, she ends up smaller, but is still not happy with how she looks. All her hard work has left her “skinny fat”. Or normal weight obese. Yikes!

But it’s no joke, in my 1-on-1 days I used to work with women who weighed pretty close to 100 pounds and yet had clinically obese levels of bodyfat made from years of starvation diets and aerobics. [Read more…]

Mid-Week Motivation

‘Monday Motivation’ I’m sure you’ve heard/read/seen it somewhere, probably in your email in-box.

A lot of us folks that like to help others archive their goals in whatever arena in life like to throw out a shot of motivation on a Monday. I appreciate it and I’m sure you do to.

But what I realized is that most people are pretty motivated and fired up to tackle their dreams on a Monday. It’s MONDAY! The perfect day to begin all new endeavors. All those Monday motivations are basically preaching to the quire.

It’s come Wednesday or Thursday that things can begin to go south and your old habits and patterns want to creep back in. So I want to give you some mid-week motivation.
