Be Aware of Sneaky Liquid Calories (+recipes)

I call these calories sneaky because they don’t fill you up, you can gulp them down in just a few minutes and if you’re not careful they can quickly turn into an unwanted
increase in body fat.

From champagne to cocktails, hot cocoa to eggnog,  all of the classic winter/celebration drinks are filled with sugary fat-storage encouraging calories.

So first, here’s a trick that reduces these calories: Slow down your consumption by drinking a full glass of water in between each calorie-filled drink.

This technique allows you to enjoy the tasty drinks of the season while keeping you hydrated and reducing your liquid calories by 50%.

Next, lets go a step further and reduce the actual calories in a couple of those drinks.

I saw these great recipes on FB the other day for a healthy Hot Cocoa and a Skinny Eggnog.

Unfortunately I don’t have anything for a low-cal champagne 🙁

* 6 Egg Yolk
* 4 Cups unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
* 2 Cups Coconut Milk
* 2 Tsp. Vanilla extract
* 2 Tsp. Rum extract
* 1 tsp. Nutmeg
* 1 tsp. Cinnamon
* Stevia to taste


1. In a small mixing bowl, place egg yolks in and set aside
2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine remaining ingredients and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low.
3. Take 1 cup from the hot liquid in the saucepan and add it slowly to the egg yolks, while whisking continuously. Transfer to the saucepan.
4. Bring back up to medium heat and whisk for 4-5 minutes.
5. Ready. Enjoy!

Nutritional Facts: (Per serving) Calories: 267, Protein: 12g, Carbs:6 g, Fat: 27g

Hot Chocolate from

1/2 cup Light Coconut Milk
1/2 cup Water
1 1/2 tsp Dark Cocoa Powder (85-100% cacao)
1/4 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Maple Syrup
1 packet Stevia (optional)

Mix all ingredients in small saucepan over low to medium heat. Stir until combined and steaming. Remove from heat, continuing to stir. Pour in your favorite coffee mug and sip by a warm fire!
