Something you need to know (personal)

This may not sit well with you, but it’s something that you need to know, and so I’m just going to come out and say it.

See, the way I see it they’re insulting your intelligence.

Who’s “they”?

THEY are the talking heads you see on TV and hear on the radio. And I’m convinced they’re trying to make you fatter.

Every year at about this time all you see, hear and read about are people making the big three New Year resolutions – more money, quit smoking, and to lose weight.

Now, I don’t know the success rate of the first two, but as a fitness expert and someone who has helped dozens and dozens of folks lose weight and get in better shape, I can tell you (and statistics prove) that most people who resolve to lose weight in the new year are doomed. [Read more…]

If It Wiggles and Jiggles You Need To Be Doing This….

The number one question I get asked is: “How do I make my belly (triceps, butt, thighs, or pick your problem spot) tight and firm?”

And here is my answer (and a workout to help get it done)…..

If it wiggles, jiggles, is puffy or bulges, then that is excess fat and excess fat is shed by proper nutrition and cardio (interval preferred). The “toning” or strength training exercises that you do for said problem spot, will build shape, size (if desired), and the overall form of your body.

Let me put it like this; let’s say you have triceps (the back of your arms) that move a little too freely when you move your arms and you start a intense regimen of strength training to firm them up, you can in fact build killer, awesome triceps muscles but if you don’t get the fat that’s actually doing the wiggling and jiggling off the top you won’t really be able to see the fruits of all your labor.

On the flip side, if you only dieted and did cardio and never added any muscle with resistance training, then you would end up with a smaller arm with less fat that jiggles but it would still definitely jiggle.

So you need the trifecta combo of proper nutrition, strength training and interval cardio.

Intervals are actually not complicated at all and there are hundreds of options that you can do right in your own home without any equipment. I show some of them in this 3rd and final clip from our morning show gig last week and I lay the exact workout for you right underneath it.

Wiggle and Jiggle Buster (warm up for 5-7 minutes before)

Quick Feet moving in and out – Tip: keep your feet close to the ground; it’s not a huge lift. You’re really only lifting your heels. Take fast tiny steps out nice and wide past your shoulders and all the way narrow. Keep your knees slightly bent the whole time. You should get your heart rate up and feel a burn in your hips and thighs! -20 seconds

Speed Skaters –30 seconds –Tip: Exaggerate your arm movements. We want to use as many muscles as possible and burn lots of calories.

Single leg deadlift –10 reps on each leg (this is the recovery move. You can also swap it out for a move that targets your personal trouble spot)

Do entire circuit 5 times.

Ok so now for an awesome workout combine all three workouts from the last 2 blog posts and this one into one calorie burning, juggle busting, booty shaping, sexy arms, flat abs workout in about 30 minutes.

Have fun!

Sexy Arms Workout

When you think of nice arms, you probably picture tight, lean arms without any excess jiggle. You probably picture arms with definite curves and shape vs an arm that appears to be more tubular shaped.
Now some women like a super cut athletic look, almost a little on the muscular side, and some like the “long lean” look with soft definition. Surprisingly, both are achieved with pretty similar methods (in the beginning at least).
Now how do you get ‘em? Biceps curls, Triceps dips? Yes, those are a part of it but you’re probably forgetting a muscle that makes all the difference – your shoulders, your side delts to be exact. You see, your side delt muscle actually takes up the top third of your get Michelle's arms at Elk Grove's Booty Boot Camparm and is one of the main things that give you that “separation” in your arms so that you have shape. Again, you can make that definition as strong or as soft as you prefer but either way, you’re gonna want to work those muscles if nice arms for the summer is your goal.

No Weight Loss Resolutions For Her!

Booty Boot Camp and one of my star clients, Monica are mentioned in the January issue of Sacramento magazine.

I am so proud of Monica and the true lifestyle change she has made.

Check it out…………

Elk grove boot camp

Four locals weigh in on how they successfully shed the pounds.

It’s January—and you know what that means. It’s resolution time.

Actually, make that revolution time.

For anyone who’s decided this is the year they’re going to lose weight and
get into shape—and we know you’re out there—this one’s for you. It’s a story
about four locals who’ve not only lost weight but kept it off, and done so
without magic pills or gimmicky fads. They’ve gone back to the basics: sensible
eating and regular exercise.

No Fat Flush, South Beach or Grapefruit diets for these folks. They’ve
learned that the only kind of plan that works is one they can follow for
life.

Monica Jones

Then: 165
Now: 145

When your sister-in-law is a fitness trainer who runs “booty boot camps,” you
probably can expect a friendly kick in the you-know-what every so
often.
That’s exactly what Monica Jones got from her sister-in-law, Sarai
Jones, fearless leader of said boot camps through Fit Bodies 2 Go in Elk Grove.
After Monica gave birth to her second child in the summer of 2007, she was
lugging around an extra 20 or 25 pounds that needed the boot.

The goal: to drop the weight by November, when her maternity leave would end.
“I wanted to go back to work with a new body,” says Jones, whose postpartum
poundage peaked at 165. She was aiming for 140—just a shade under her normal
145. (She’s 5-foot-5.)

So that August, with her sister-in-law at the ready, Jones’ battle with the
bulge began.

First order of business: a new way of eating. “Sarai gave me The
Eat-Clean Diet
book and asked me to read it before we started working out,”
says Jones, who lives in Sacramento. “She wanted me to get my mind-set in
place.” The book’s plan called for six small, balanced meals a day, each
hovering around the 300-calorie mark. Fish, veggies and whole grains became
staples; out went the cookies and the chips.

For the 29-year-old Jones, who always had “eaten pretty much everything I
wanted,” changing her eating habits was the greatest challenge of all—even
harder, she says, than working out.

But that, too, was difficult. Jones says she couldn’t even run around the
block before her sister-in-law kick-started her into action.

“I was a little intimidated,” she admits. But when Sarai showed up at her
house three days a week, it was fight or flight.

She fought.

Light workouts were soon replaced by vigorous ones. She walked. She ran. She
rode bikes. She did jumping jacks. She jumped rope. She weight-trained with
dumbbells. Sarai was “a great coach,” Jones says. “It helps to have that
accountability factor—to know someone is going to come and work out with
you.”

It also helped Jones to visualize herself waltzing back into work and having
her office mates go “wow.”

Did she make it? You bet she did.

“I got rid of a lot of clothes, went out shopping for some new ones and just
felt so much better about myself,” says Jones.

Since then, she’s gained back about 5 pounds. But she’s kept off 20 and is
happy with the way she looks.

Jones still struggles with the eating thing. “Sweets are my enemy,” she
confesses; chocolate is a particular weakness.

But she continues to work out three times a week, and you can probably guess
where. Yep. She goes to booty camp.
