The 2 Minute Workout Fix

2minutes-300x226Have you ever completely totally just NOT felt like working out?

You think: I’m too tired, I’m too sore, too this, too that. But it’s also one of those days that way
deep down you know you’re just kinda making excuses…..

It happened to me yesterday. For some reason even though I’ve been LOVING my workouts
lately I woke up, did my normal routine of walking my girl Zoe and when I got back in the house
I just did not want to go workout.

But I have two rules I live by when it comes to deciding to skip a workout and I want to share  them with you.

Oh BTW -you should always make a conscious decision to skip a workout, don’t just let one slip
by like a stranger on the street. Acknowledge your decision to skip your workout and OWN it.

When you actually have to say to yourself: “I am skipping this workout because_____.” you may decide differently.

But back on track I do these two things ALWAYS before I decide to skip:

1. I ask myself is my body REALLY feeling the need to rest or is it my head just WANTING to not do what I need to do?

I ask this because sometimes you legitly need a break. You’ve been going all out in your workouts and you wake up over-heated, maybe you lose your appetite, constant fatigue no
matter how much you sleep. Those are some of the signs of overtraining and while it’s actually harder than most people think to over-train it can happen. If that is what you are TRULY feeling then yes, rest this day. But I can’t stress enough that you have to be real and not just say yes when you know it’s a no….

2. Since 90% of the time the answer to the above question is no, the 2nd rule is to just start the workout and if by the time the warm-up is done and we get into the first set I’m still not feeling it, I’ll stop.

Here’s why; because after 2 minutes of working out, your brain releases neurotransmitters that make you actually want to keep working out. It’s science.

In just 2 short minutes your brain tells your body “oh yeah this is good. Let’s do some more!”

In 2 minutes you’ll go from “Nah, Not feelin it.”  to “Beast Mode –ON!”

It works like a charm every time.

So next time you think you’re gonna skip out on your workout, grab a jump rope and start skipping that instead. Then, go dominate your workout!
