There is a good chance that you are reading this after you’re enjoyed a (huge) delicious meal with your family and before you get ready to head out to some can’t-miss-deal at your favorite store.
So since I have you as a captive audience for a bit I want give you a few tips so that you can survive tomorrows shopping “festivities” with as little damage to your waist-line as possible.
After all, I’ve been drilling into you the fact that you can’t outwork a bad diet so even though it’s ok to treat and splurge a bit. We gotta keep the main goal in mind. These tips will help.

Tip #1: Don’t Forget to Eat -You are busy shopping and hanging out with friends. You may shop your way right through your Friday lunch. That is not a good idea because once you do catch up to a meal, you will find yourself consuming too much and probably of the wrong things.
Those Cinnabon, Mrs. Fields and Wetzels Pretzels stores give off the most inviting, delicious smells. If your stomach is growling and you’re starting to get a headache they can be hard to resist.
Action Step: Pack a snack. Dried fruit, nuts or even taking a small cooler with a few slices of lunch meat and vegetables will help you keep your senses about you as you decide what to eat.
Tip #2: Stay Hydrated –Thirst often masquerades as hunger. This can make you consume excess calories when what your body really wants is calorie free h20.
Action Step: Take your re-fillable water bottle with you as you shop and be mindful of sipping regularly.
Tip #3: Stay Focused on Your Goal –It’s so easy to get caught up in the relaxed ‘let it wait until the New Year’ attitude and begin to let your fitness focus get hazy.
Yes everyone around you may be (seemingly) guiltlessly eating sweet treats and drinking warm calorie loaded coffee house drinks. But there is a price to pay for that relaxation. And the scale is an unforgiving master.
Remember that 4-days of taking your eye off the goal can set you back weeks and that is not what you want. You want to go into the New Year a few pounds lighter, not 10 pounds heavier!
Action Step: When you get to the mall go straight to your favorite clothes store and try on that cute LBD.
In the dressing room visualize yourself looking EXACTLY how you want to look in that hot little number as a result of you sticking to your plan and not giving in to too much temptation over the long weekend ahead.
